Première comparaison XR vs MS

MCN du 10 juin a écrit le premier comparatif entre les 2 grandes rivales.

They are both genuinely outstanding

If you think bikes were better in the good old days, you really need to try one of these.

There's no compromise here. Their range of expertise is breathtaking.

Multistrada:
Someone spend a lot of time thinking of ways to make the MS serve all riding needs:
- switchgear is baclit for nigh riding
- heated grips are slim and hot
- mirrors are large and wide
- screen is adjusted by grabbing a latch - takes a millisecond even at speed
- screen quiter upright but buffets your head
- cruise control is great
- riding position is easy too

XR:
- very different beast
- engine is smoother and rougher
- the motor is terrific- monster midrange- hyperspacial dynamite from 9000
- riding position is similar
- has many distractions as the MS
- Garmin integration is cool with the controller wheel
- screen isn't as easy to move
- astonishingly planted, rolling into corners
- quickshifter is stunning
- exhaust backfires like a Group B rally car

A clear preference emerges: the Ducati is less capable than the BMW.

Much as I love the Multistrada on the road, on the track it's hampered by traditional adventure bike limitations: weight transfer is too extreme, the forks wander under load, the back is too wallowy. With the XR I wouldn't hesitate; it's fare more of a sportsbike.

In empirical terms the BMW is the winner. But the truth is which you prefer comes down to whether you like V-twins or inline four.

Puissance:
142 ch - Multistrada
160 ch - XR

Couple:
89.1 - Multistrada
84.2 - XR

Vitesse:
142 mph - Multistrada
146 mph - XR

40-120 mph:
15s - Multistrada
-10s - XR

Le système DVT ne semble pas palier la norme Euro IV. La nouvelle Multistrada a moins de couple que l'ancienne (mesuré).
